Our ‪#‎brelfie‬ t-shirts were a huge hit and our screening of MILK the Film was full of breastfeeding supporters. Neither would have been possible without support from breastfeeding friendly community sponsors.

Breastfeeding Month Proclamation

posted on Aug 09, 2013 in Central Texas News by

If you weren’t able to make it out to city hall for our fabulous event, don’t feel bad you can watch it here.

We had so much fun giving out our “Eat Local” t-shirts and ice cream.  Thanks City of Austin for your continued support of breastfeeding mothers

Here is the language of the proclamation

Be it known that whereas breastfeeding is one of the most easily utilized and cost effective prevention strategies available world-wide for a variety of infections and acute diseases of both women and children, and whereas continued support to sustain breastfeeding is the vital foundation for success in our mothers efforts to provide optimal nutrition and comfort for their babies, and whereas working women are more likely to choose to breastfeed their newborns until age one  if there is a mother friendly workplace policy in effect at their places of employment that encourages breastfeeding and helps to remove any stigma associated with breastfeeding, and whereas Austin Travis County Health and Human Services has a program to provide technical assistance to empoyers of all sizes to provide appropriate space for lactating mother to pump milk during their work day, now therefore I Lee Lefingwell, Mayor of the City of Austin, Texas do proclaim August 2013 as Breastfeeding Awareness Month in Austin.

A special thanks to our vendors that came out to meet with Central Texas families in the blazing heat.

We had:

The Natural Baby Company, Austin Travis County WIC, and two breastfeeding supply companies Ameda and Medela and Blue Bell donated the ice cream.  There were also a few sponsors that contributed without having a table at city hall:  Special Additions which has moved to a new location at 7301 Burnet Road, Maudi’s Tex Mex, Revolve Solar, and MamaCents.  Thank you so much!  You made it possible for us to print these awesome “Eat Local” shirts that we were able to give to the community.  We will be printing more and have them for sale on our site soon if you weren’t able to make it out.
